National Stormwater Calculator - Check It Out!

A new desktop tool from the EPA, the National Stormwater Calculator, estimates the amount of annual stormwater runoff from specific sites given site-specific parameters.  The user chooses various types of low-impact development controls to alter estimates and obtain information that could help manage stormwater runoff.  Useful to site developers, homeowners, or landscapers, this tool and more information can be found at:
http://www.epa.gov/nrmrl/wswrd/wq/models/swc/

(I'm told the following website is an excellent resource to educate  homeowners about stormwater ponds.)

New On Clemson Extension's Website

In the month of August, new features on Clemson Extension's Stormwater Pond Management website (http://www.clemson.edu/extension/natural_resources/water/ stormwater_ponds/index.html) will be added, including a bi-annual pond inspection and maintenance checklist. A media release will accompany these website updates and reorganization.

New Postcard Ready for Distribution

A new educational postcard, Shorescaping Freshwater Shorelines, is now back from the printer and available for distribution. Please let Katie know if you are interested in distributing these.

Commercial Campaign

A robust campaign of the "We All Live Downstream" commercial has been purchased for the end of July through the end of September, including airtime during the Barclay Golf Tournament (August 20-25) and the BMW Tour (September 12-15). By October, there will be a new commercial available, and more on this is forthcoming.

The Unsecret Garden

With no secrets to conceal

A garden will reveal

Each facet of its glory

Every color being seen

Among the requisite green

Describes a detail of the story

Having nothing to hide

As her mood coincides

With the rites of the season

Respectful of the way

Her colors fade to gray

Not questioning the reasons

What seems to be conclusions

Is just shedding past illusions

Of scenes she left untold

The palettes of her history

Reflect no shades of mystery

So to not entrench her soul

No decisions must she make

To be real or to be fake

Cannot hide from her true color

While accepting without doubt

The new life that will sprout

The plan of nature's mother

To embrace the coming sequel

Which may or may not equal

The heritage of its past

With faith but not with envy

Her calm awaits the frenzy

When the time is right at last

Giving no excuses

Nor blaming past abuses

When her lushness is no longer

Assuring to return

With new lessons she will learn

To make her message stronger

She paints another chapter

While telling of its rapture

Makes no secret of its glory

This garden tells a story.
